Khalid Hussein (b. 1985) Is an Egyptian-American artist and lecturer based in Los Angeles, CA.
Khalid was born in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia and received an informal education split between the US and the Middle East. He later went to UCLA, where he completed a BFA and MA.
His work, primarily on canvas, interrogates the processes by which identities (religious, ethnic, national) are constructed by violence. Hussein's paintings juxtapose representational styles with abstractions and employ found images collaged in unexpected, often absurd combinations that act as metaphors for functions of social identification.
Hussein's work are represented in public and private collections internationally.
